How To Change Skateboard Bearings

Ever wonder how to change your Skateboard Bearings? Some may think it's difficult, but it's really not. In fact it only takes a few short minutes until you're up and rolling again.

Here's where you start:

*Skate Tool

Remove your old Bearings

-Step 1: Use your skate tool. Whatever brand it may be they all should work fine. You can always fall back on a basic screwdriver and a handy wrench.

-Step 2: Remove the wheels with your skate tool. If you have shields installed, we suggest you remove those. Keep your spacers, unless you plan on using your new spacers that come with your new set of bearings.

-Step 3: You can use a screwdriver or a skate tool that includes a removal nub. You can also just apply pressure with the skate axle to pop the bearings off. , however the easiest way is to slowly pry the bearing out with the skate axle. Be careful to only push the bearing and if you choose the easiest the tip of the axle should only touch the bearing and not the wheel. You could damage your wheel if you apply to much pressure against it.

-Step 4: Carefully pry out the bearing if you want to save the part. If you're getting rid of your old bearings, apply as much pressure as you want, just be careful not to damage the wheels.

-Step 5: Repeat the last four steps prying each bearing out until all eight bearings have been removed.

Now that wasn't too bad was it?? *Two thumbs up!*

Install new bearings

Ok here we go! This process requires a little more time, but you can do it.

-Step 1: First set the bearings into the wheel. Some bearing brands have a colored shield on one side, which can be placed facing outward, but it's not required for you to do that. Bearings should be tight. Start by directly placing the bearings in the wheel, but it is highly recommended that you grease each ball bearing inside the bearing itself. Once you've greased the bearings simply place them in the wheel applying small pressure.

-Step 2: Evenly press on the outside metal rim of the bearing until it pushes into the wheel. It should end up being flush with the wheel. Make sure you avoid pushing on the shield or center of the bearing while you change the parts, it's trouble knocking on the door.

-Step 3: Now add a spacer between the bearings if you are using them. A spacer keeps the bearings at the proper distance. We personally highly recommend them.

-Step 4: Set all eight bearings into place one at a time until your skateboard wheels are complete. Next carefully attach all of your wheels to the trucks on your skateboard deck.

-Step 5: Tighten the nut that holds the wheels on the truck until it stops. Push the bearings into the wheel completely, do not want to force the nut, this could easily break the bearings. You know what that means, back to square one.

-Step 6: Loosen the nuts just a little so the wheel has room to freely spin. From the tightest point, you should loosen the nuts about one-quarter to one-half of a turn. Snap!! You're finished and ready to shred the gnar!!
